The Beemster Polder
Drive through the Beemster Polder, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and learnhow the Dutch drained an entire lake more than 400 years ago to create newfarmland. Drive along the historic dikes and discover how the Dutch reclaimedland from the water.
Step inside a historic Dutch windmill dating from 1634 and see how peopleonce lived inside. Learn how the windmill was used to drain water and help turnthe former lake into fertile farmland.
Continue towards Edam, driving past Esther’s family windmill, dikes and through quaint villages where locals live and work.
